Discovering mold in your home can be alarming, but knowing how to respond can help you address the issue effectively and safely.
Immediate Steps
Don't panic—most mold situations are manageable. Avoid disturbing the mold, as this can release spores into the air. Document the affected area with photos. Identify and stop any water sources contributing to the moisture.
When to DIY vs. Call a Professional
Small areas of mold (less than 10 square feet) on non-porous surfaces can often be cleaned with proper precautions. However, you should call a professional if the affected area is larger than 10 square feet, mold is in HVAC systems, there's been significant water damage, or you or family members have health concerns.
